Your best option for driving after your DWI!

Minnesota Ignition Interlock Device Program
Effective July 1, 2011, first-time alcohol offenders with an alcohol concentration of 0.16 or above and all second-time alcohol offenders have the option of regaining their driving privilege if they participate in the Minnesota Ignition Interlock Device Program. Drivers who are canceled and denied as inimical to public safety, who wish to regain full driving privileges, are required to enroll in Ignition Interlock for a three (3) to six (6) year period.

Drivers having received notice of revocation or cancelation prior to July 1, 2011, have the option of enrolling in the Minnesota Ignition Interlock Device Program and must sign a waiver to participate. Waivers can be obtained by contacting Driver and Vehicle Services.

Ignition Interlock enhances public safety by giving eligible alcohol offenders the option of having an ignition interlock device installed on their vehicle helping ensure they are driving safely and legally. The device is the size of a hand held calculator with a blowing tube. It prevents a vehicle from starting if it detects a certain alcohol concentration level after the driver blows into the tube. The device is installed near the steering wheel and connected to the engine.

This program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle ServicesDivision. Contact DVS at dvs.ii@state.mn.us or (651) 296-2948.
